Chapter Eleven
âWhat did you think when you heard your husband was one of our top ten sexiest husbands?â
The question was posed from the Media Monthly reporter who, along with her photographer, was sitting across from Finn and I in the comfort of Finnâs Manhattan penthouse.
The penthouse was a nice compromise as far as locales go. I didnât want a sterile location, but something that would relax me. And Finn didnât want anyone near our suburban New York home. That was too personal for him. Like Goldilocks, the penthouseâs middle ground was just right.
I had asked, practically begged, Finn to tell me what he wanted me to say ... how to answer any questions. But he deferred, saying he wanted me to feel free to say whatever I felt. Finn should have known better. Since the first time we met, he had been witness to the side of me that used dry humor when I was nervous. And despite his hand being interlocked with mine and his calm demeanor, I was nervous.
When I started to say something but stopped to edit, Finn answered for me, giving a classic Lara answer, anyhow. âShe asked how many guys turned it down in order for me to rank that high.â
Grateful that he was putting me at ease, I smiled and wrinkled my nose at him while admitting, âI kind of did.â
âYou donât think your husband is sexy?â The reporter asked, obviously a little shocked.
âI do,â I restated. âItâs just, I donât think of him the way your magazine is referring to. I mean, God yeah, who can resist these abs,â I said, releasing my hand momentarily to rub it over Finnâs stomach, which was covered by a black V-neck T. âAnd that smile,â I added when he did just that. âBut that isnât what is truly sexy about Finn.â
âGo on.â
âYeah, go on,â Finn teasingly tagged in with the reporter.
He seemed much more at ease than he usually was when talking about his personal life to strangers. Maybe it was spending time with Kelsea, or maybe it was knowing the pregnancy was going well ... I wasnât sure. But I was definitely glad. If nothing else, it helped calm my nerves.
I lightly pushed on my husbandâs shoulder before turning serious. âItâs the way he puts his whole heart into everything he does. How he cares about everyone around himâ his fans and his bandmates.â I briefly let my mind flutter to Carter, who I knew was really stepping up with helping his mom, brother, and sister. âBut Finnâs family is so special and important to him and, without a doubt, me. I know he loves me unconditionally. He is my best friend, first and foremost. Thatâs what makes him sexy.â When I turned from the reporter to Finn at the conclusion of my statement, he kissed me ever so softly and appreciatively.
âWhat was the first song that you ever sang for your wife?â
âThe first song? Hmmm...â He looked at me. âI ... I donât know.â
âThe first time we met,â I offered.
